Some Ugly Aspects of SEO

Some Ugly Aspects of SEO
1Dependent on search engines
It is true that in any career there are many things that are outside of your control but for SEO this is a rule number one. Search engines frequently change their algorithms and what is worse – these changes are not made public, so even the greatest SEO gurus admit that they make a lot of educated guesses about how things work. It is very discouraging to make everything perfect and then to learn that due to a change in the algorithm, your sites dropped 100 positions down. But the worst part is that you need to communicate this to clients, who are not satisfied with their sinking ratings.

2No fixed rules
Probably this will change over time but for now the rule is that there are no rules – or at least not written ones. You can work very hard, follow everything that looks like a rule and still success is not coming. Currently you can't even rely on bringing a search engine to court because of the damages they have done to your business because search engines are not obliged to rank high sites that have made efforts to get optimized.

3Rapid changes in rankings
But even if you somehow manage to get to the top for a particular keyword, keeping the position requires constant efforts. Well, many other businesses are like that, so this is hardly a reason to complain – except when an angry customer starts shouting at you that this week their ratings are sinking and of course this is all your fault.

4SEO requires Patience
The SEO professional and customers both need to understand that SEO takes constant effort and time. It could take months to move ahead in the ratings, or to build tens of links. Additionally, if you stop optimizing for some time, most likely you will experience a considerable drop in ratings. You need lots of motivation and patience not to give up when things are not going your way.

5Black hat SEO
Black hat SEO is probably one of the biggest concerns for the would-be SEO practitioner. Fraud and unfair competition are present in any industry and those who are good and ethical suffer from this but black hat SEO is still pretty widespread. It is true that search engines penalize black hat practices but still black hat SEO is a major concern for the industry.

So, let's hope that by telling you about the pros and cons of choosing SEO as your career we have helped you make an informed decision about your future.

Some Good Reasons to Choose SEO as Your Career

1High demand for SEO services
Once SEO was not a separate profession - Web masters performed some basic SEO for the sites they managed and that was all. But as sites began to grow and make money, it became more reasonable to hire a dedicated SEO specialist than to have the Web master do it. The demand for good SEO experts is high and is constantly on the rise.

2A LOT of people have made a successful SEO career
There are many living proofs that SEO is a viable business. The list is too long to be quoted here but some of the names include Rob from Blackwood Productions, Jill Wahlen from High Rankings, Rand Fishkin from SEO Moz and many others.

3Search Engine Optimizers make Good Money !
SEO is a profession that can be practiced while working for a company or as a solo practitioner. There are many jobboards like Dice and Craigslist that publish SEO job advertisements. It is worth noting that the compensation for SEO employees is equal to or even higher than that of developers, designers and marketers. Salaries over $80K per annum are not an exception for SEO jobs.
As a solo SEO practitioner you can make even more money. Almost all freelance sites have sections for SEO services and offers for $50 an hour or more are quite common. If you are still not confident that you can work on your own, you can start a SEO job, learn a bit and then start your own company.
If you already feel confident that you know a lot about SEO, you can take this quiz and see how you score. Well, don't get depressed if you didn't pass - here is a great checklist that will teach you a lot, even if you are already familiar with SEO.

4Only Web-Designing MAY NOT be enough
Many companies offer turn-key solutions that include Web design, Web development AND SEO optimization. In fact, many clients expect that when they hire somebody to make their site, the site will be SEO friendly, so if you are good both as a designer and a SEO expert, you will be a truely valuable professional.
On the other hand, many other companies are dealing with SEO only because they feel that this way they can concentrate their efforts on their major strength – SEO, so you can consider this possibility as well.

5Logical step ahead if you come from marketing or advertising
The Web has changed the way companies do business, so to some extent today's marketers and advertisers need to have at least some SEO knowledge if they want to be successful. SEO is also a great career for linguists.

6Lots of Learning
For somebody who comes from design, development or web administration, SEO might look not technical enough and you might feel that you will downgrade if you move to SEO. Don't worry so much - you can learn a LOT from SEO, so if you are a talented techie, you are not downgrading but you are actually upgrading your skills packages.

7SEO is already recognized as a career
Finally, if you need some more proof that SEO is a great career, have a look at the available courses and exams for SEO practitioners. Well, they might not be a CISCO certification but still they help to institutionalize the SEO profession.

How to get Traffic from Social Bookmarking sites

stumbleupon.com or digg.com etc can bring you a LOT of traffic. How about getting 20,000 and more visitors a day when your listing hits the front page?
Getting to the front page of these sites is not as difficult as it seems. I have been successful with digg and del.icio.us (and not so much with Reddit though the same steps should apply to it as well) multiple times and have thus compiled a list of steps that have helped me succeed:

Pay attention to your Headlines
Many great articles go unnoticed on social bookmarking sites because their headline is not catchy enough. Your headline is the first (and very often the only) thing users will see from your article, so if you don't make the effort to provide a catchy headline, your chances of getting to the front page are small.
Here are some examples to start with :-

Original headline : The Two Types of Cognition
Modified Headline : Learn to Understand Your Own Intelligence

Original headline: Neat way to organize and find anything in your purse instantly!
Modified Headline : How to Instantly Find Anything in Your Purse

Here is a good blog post that should help you with your headlines.

2Write a meaningful & short description
The headline is very important to draw attention but if you want to keep that attention, a meaningful description is vital. The description must be slightly provocative because this draws more attention but still, never use lies and false facts to provoke interest. For instance, if your write “This article will reveal to you the 10 sure ways to deal with stress once and forever and live like a king from now on.” visitors will hardly think that your story is true and facts-based.

You also might be tempted to use a long tell-it-all paragraph to describe your great masterpiece but have in mind that many users will not bother to read anything over 100-150 characters. Additionally, some of the social bookmarking sites limit descriptions, so you'd better think in advance how to describe your article as briefly as possible.

3Have a great first paragraph
This is a rule that is always true but for successful social bookmarking it is even more important. If you have successfully passed Level 1 (headlines) and Level 2 (description) in the Catch the User's Attraction game, don't let a bad first paragraph make them leave your site.

4Content is king
However, the first paragraph is not everything. Going further along the chain of drawing (and retaining) users' attention, we reach the Content is King Level. If your articles are just trash, bookmarking them is useless. You might cheat users once but don't count on repetitive visits. What is more, you can get your site banned from social bookmarking sites, when you persistently post junk.

5Make it easy for others to vote / bookmark your site
It is best when other people, not you, bookmark your site. Therefore, you must make your best to make it easier for them to do it. You can put a bookmarking button at the end of the article, so if users like your content, they can easily post it. If you are using a CMS, check if there is an extension that allows to add Digg, Del.icio.us, and other buttons but if you are using static HTML, you can always go to the social bookmarking site and copy the code that will add their button to your pages.
Here is a link that should help you add Links for Del.icio.us, Digg, and More to your pages.

6Know when to submit
The time when you submit can be crucial for your attempts to get to the front page. On most social bookmarking sites you have only 24 hours to get to the front page and stay there. So, if you post when most users (and especially your supporters) are still sleeping, you are wasting valuable time. By the time they get up, you might have gone to the tenth page. You'd better try it for yourself and see if it works for you but generally posting earlier than 10 a.m. US Central Time is not good. Many people say that they get more traffic around 3 p.m. US Central Time. Also, workdays are generally better in terms of traffic but the downside is that you have more competitors for the front page than on weekends.

7Submit to the right category
Sometimes a site might not work for you because there is no right category for you. Or because you don't submit to the right category – technology, health, whatever – but to categories like General, Miscellaneous, etc. where all unclassified stuff goes. And since these categories fill very fast, your chance to get noticed decreases.

8Build a top-profile
Not all users are equal on social bookmarking sites. If you are an old and respected user who has posted tons of interesting stuff, this increases the probability that what you submit will get noticed. Posting links to interesting articles on other sites is vital for building a top-profile. Additionally, it is suspicious, when your profile has links to only one site. Many social bookmarking sites frown when users submit their own content because this feels like self-promotion.

9Cooperate with other social bookmarkers
The Lonely Wolf is a suicidal strategy on sites like StubleUpon, Digg, Netscape. Many stories make it to the front page not only because they are great but because they are backed up by your network of friends. If in the first hours after your submittal you get at least 15 votes from your friends and supporters, it is more likely that other users will vote for you. 50 votes can get you to the top page of Digg.

10Submit in English
Linguistic diversity is great but the majority of users are from English-speaking countries and they don't understand exotic languages. So, for most of the social bookmarking sites submitting anything in a language different from English is not recommendable. The languages that are at an especial disadvantage are Chinese, Arabic, Slavic languages and all the other that use non-latin alphabet. German, Spanish, French are more understandable but still they are not English. If you really must submit your story (i.e. because you need the backlink), include an English translation at least of the title. But the best way to proceed with non-English stories is to post them on where they belong. Check this link for a list of non-English sites.

11Never submit old news
Submitting old news will not help you in becoming a respected user. Yesterday's news is history. But if you still need to submit old stuff, consider feature articles, howtos and similar pieces that are up-to-date for a long time.

12Check your facts
You must be flattered that users read your postings but you will hardly be flattered when users prove that you haven't got the facts right. In addition to sarcastic comments, you might also receive negative votes for your story, so if you want to avoid this, check you facts - or your readers will do it.

13Check you spelling
Some sites do not allow to edit your posts later, so if you misspell the title, the URL, or a keyword, it will stay this way forever.

14Not all topics do well
But sometimes even great content and submitting to the right category do not push you to the top. One possible reason could be that your stories are about unpopular topics. Many sites have topics that their users love and topics that don't sell that well. For instance, Apple sells well on Digg and The War in Iraq on Netscape. Negative stories - about George Bush, Microsoft, evil multinational companies, corruption and crime also have a chance to make it to the front page. You can't know these things in advance but some research on how many stories tagged with keywords like yours have made the front page in the last year or so can give you a clue.

15Have Related Articles / Popular Articles
Traffic gurus joke that traffic from social bookmarking sites is like an invasion – the crowds pour in and in a day or two they are gone. Unfortunately this is true – after your listing rolls from the front page (provided that you reached the front page), the drop in traffic is considerable. Besides, many users come just following the link to your article, have a look at it and then they are gone. One of the ways to keep them longer on your site is to have links to Related Articles / Popular Articles or something similar that can draw their attention to other stuff on the site and make them read more than one article.

16RSS feeds, newsletter subscriptions, affiliate marketing
RSS feeds, newsletter subscriptions, affiliate marketing are all areas in which the traffic from social bookmarking sites can help you a lot. Many people who come to your site and like it, will subscribe to RSS feeds and/or your newsletter. So, you need to put these in visible places and then you will be astonished at the number of new subscriptions you got on the day when you were on the front page of a major social bookmarking site.

17Do not use automated submitters
After some time of active social bookmarking, you will discover that you are spending hours on end posting links. Yes, this is a lot of time and using automated submitters might look like the solution but it isn't. Automated submitters often have malware in them or are used for stealing passwords, so unless you don't care about the fate of your profile and don't mind being banned, automated submitters are not the way to go.

18Respond to comments on your stories
Social bookmarking sites are not a newsgroup but interesting articles can trigger a pretty heated discussion with hundreds of comments. If your article gets comments, you must be proud. Always respond to commends on your stories and even better – post comments on other stories you find interesting. This is a way to make friends and to create a top-profile.

19Prepare your server for the expected traffic
This is hardly a point of minor importance but we take for granted that you are hosting your site on a reliable server that does not crash twice a day. But have in mind that your presence on the front page of a major social bookmarking site can drive you a lot traffic, which can cause your server to crash – literally!
I remember one of the times I was on the front page on Digg, I kept restarting Apache on my dedicated server because it was unable to cope with the massive traffic. I have many tools on my site and when the visitors tried them, this loaded the server additionally.
Well, for an articles site getting so much traffic is not so devastating but if you are hosting on a so-so server, you'd better migrate your site to a machine that can handle a lot of simultaneous hits. Also, check if your monthly traffic allowance is enough to handle 200-500,000 or even more visitors. It is very amateurish to attract a lot of visitors and not be able to serve them because your server crashed or you have exceeded your bandwidth!

20The snowball effect
But despite the differences in the likes of the different social bookmarking communities, there are striking similarities. You will soon discover that if a post is popular on one of the major sites, this usually drives it up on the other big and smaller sites. Usually it is Digg posts that become popular on StumbleUpon and Reddit but there are many other examples. To use this fact to your best advantage, you may want to concentrate your efforts on getting to the front page of the major players only and bet on the snowball effect to drive you to the top on other sites.
An additional benefit of the snowball effect is that if your posting is interesting and people start blogging about it, you can get tons of backlinks from their blogs. This happened to me and the result was that my PR jumped to 6 on the next update.

Adsense Do's and Dont's for Dummies

So you’re new to the whole Adsense Experience, that’s okay, everyone was a newbie once. You’ve got to start somewhere. I was, and I still consider myself a newbie with almost 2 years experience with Adsense. I’m always open to suggestions, and I’m like a sponge with a thirst for knowledge. Here are a few tips and suggestions for people who are either about to embark on their Adsense adventure or who have just set sail.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Don’t’s…
Don’t make a site about Adsense. You know very little. And in the process of trying to learn you are of course going to websites trying to find out more. In the search for your adsense knowledge how would you feel if you stumbled on a site like the one that YOU have made? By a rank amateur. Who is just regurgitating what everyone else has said. In the process of reguritating it it is also being watered down. Also the Adsense Newbie who makes a site about Adsense is probably gathering information from other sites made by Adsense Newbies. They have haven’t digested it properly and you are unable to discern what is worth reading and what is not.
Don’t strive to be an Adsense Expert for the sake of being an Adsense Expert. When you’re making enough money to live on comfortably to give you the lifestyle you believe you deserve, then you can be an expert who writes e-books, talks at seminaros or publishes their methods. Until then we’re all learning. But that doesn’t mean we can’t learn from each other.
Some people don’t see how funny it is that people ask “how do I get the code to work? How do I get the ads I want? How do I get traffic?” and their site is about… MAKING MONEY ON THE INTERNET!

Best case scenario it’s pure comedy. Worst case scenario it’s hypocrisy.

Don’t think that you can make a site, upload it, and then the traffic will magically arrive.
It’s not a case of “Build it and they will come”, it’s more like the old saying “You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make him drink.” Realise this: you haven’t even yet lead the horse to water. You know what? You don’t even know where that horse is!

You want to make Adsense work for you? Then you’re going to do some more homework… SEO (Search Engine Optimization), learn some design skills (expose yourself to good examples of design, both online and offline, ie: magazine layouts, even the ads), get out of your comfort zone and learn HTML (you can still use a HTML editor (my preference is Dreamweaver), but look at what you’ve done and then look at the code, slowly but surely you will learn without really trying). Read books on marketing. Look at the way businesses (not just online ones) promote themselves.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Don’t spam. Never ever. Whether it be email spam to a list of addresses of people you don’t know or a “drive by spamming” at a forum you’ve just signed up at.
Don’t cheat. Don’t try and cheat Google, they’ll catch you. If you think you can, then go ahead. The result will be one less Adsense Publisher for me to compete with to get hold of advertisers dollars.
Cheating is not a means towards passive income. It has no residual effect. Cheating only makes money (which you can end up losing) when you are actively cheating. Instead of wasting your time doing that use your creative if somewhat devious brain to come up with legitimate plans of increasing your revenue. As previously mentioned, educate yourself: SEO, marketing, promotion, etc, etc. Instead of using the local town library computer to fraudulently click on a couple of ads use that trip to pin a flyer for one of your websites on the community noticeboard.

Don’t make a site about a topic simply because it is a high paying keyword. Again, you will just be vomiting up someone elses words. I had a discussion ten years ago with a friend who had concerns with the state of the quality of the information that people were exposing themselves to. It’s even more apt in todays society which sees more of the worlds population multiplied by a thousandfold get online since then. He saw information as peanuts. We process this information, and pass it on in text books and it’s crunchy peanut butter. Then people use this information to write articles (he was thinking magazines) and it’s now smooth peanut butter, and where was it going from there? What was it being used for? And what was it ending up as?
Peanut JUICE!

Watered down and with very little of the crunchy goodness it originally had.

I’m still unaware if peanut juice is on the market, but the thought of it doesn’t make me want to go drink a glass of it. And that’s what people are doing nowadays, dispensing peanut juice from their made for adsense websites.

Unique content isn’t rearranging words in a paragraph. Unique is original. If you’re going to fill your site up with articles from an article site, then so be it. But write a half a dozen articles to do with the topic that you yourself have researched. It might feel like you’re going back to school to do an assignment. And it is. But you know now more than you knew then so it should be easier for you now than it ever was. If you’re not sure how to go about it there are books at the library on writing and researching. Your librarian will know exactly where they are! Despite the rumours circulating the internet, the library is not dead. Use it. If a publisher took a gamble on an author to write a book then it’s bound to contain better information than what you’re getting through a search from a quick lookup online.

Don’t tell your family about your Adsense websites. They may feel compelled to click on the ads to help you out. Which may lead to your account shutdown by Google because one of your family members were a little too generous with the clicks.
Don’t tell your friends about your Adsense websites. They may do what a family member does, or if you have a habit of having friends who for whatever reason would hate to see one of their friends get ahead in life they may try and cripple your residual earnings by clicking too much.
Don’t register your name as a dot com and fill it with Adsense ads. Avoid doing this unless you’re an artist, photographer, musician, author or have some other reason why your name would evoke some kind of recognition and response from an internet audience. By all means do register it, but for purposes other than making money from Adsense.
Don’t label your Ads with anything other than “sponsored links” or “advertisements”.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Do’s…

Do make a website on a subject that you LOVE and enjoy. Because depending on your experience, net savvy and other determining factors it may take a while before 1) you get traffic, 2) people actually click on your links, 3) you’re making enough money to get a monthly check.
Adsense is a long term proposition. If you are new you will not making it big overnight.

Do look around and find a forum where they discuss Adsense. There’s a lot around, but be mindful that the information that the members are sharing islegit and not likely to get you banned. It’s good to have more than one opinion. I recommend AdsenseChat which was started by Adsense Expert and published author Joel Comm.
Do ask questions, even stupid ones. At the forum I frequent the only time I will mock someone is AFTER someone has been rude to me because I have pointed out that either 1) they’re a cheater or 2) the world doesn’t need a site about adsense and/or making money on the internet from someone who has little or no experience with both.
Do speculate. Wonder out loud (in forums) about why you think you’ve had a drop or a rise in your adsense earnings. Or even about your site traffic. Feel free to imagine how Google does things. Of course highlight the fact that it is mere speculation. Avoid it coming across as fact or gospel. Also be aware that sometimes things happen and you’ll never find out the reason for them. As frustrating as that is it does happen.
Do ask others to critique your site. And while someone may not directly respond about the ad block layout that you specifically asked for and they talk about some other feature or facet of your website then just go with the flow.
Do keep your site/s confidential if you so wish.
Do buy Joel’s book The Adsense Code. It’s only fifteen bucks! It’s an excellent start point and will bring you up to speed quickly.
Do read Google’s Programme Policies and their Terms and Conditions, aka ToS (Terms of Service). As a matter of fact bookmark them and read them every so often.
Do be patient. If you are a Complete Adsense Newb, and by that I mean you have absolutely no idea how to crop an image, upload a page, copy and paste html, etc, etc, then don’t jump in feet first to the first sales pitch for hosted sites or templates that comes your way. You will need to educate yourself first. Otherwise you will be approaching these offers from a position of ignorance.

Start your Online Business from Scratch Make money from Zero

One advantage of doing business online is that you can start from scratch without investing much money. Here is the Action Plan to help you get started...

Please bookmark this blog and check other related posts for better understanding.

1. List 5 hobbies, interests or areas of expertise. If you want to start a new business, you'd better choose a subject that you like and a subject where you can show expertise. You will have more fun and you will be more competitive.

2. Brainstorm a list of keywords and phrases related to those hobbies and interests. For example, if you are going to sell small airplane collectibles, some possible keywords could be: airplanes, aeronautics, war airplanes, etc.

3. Research those keywords in Wordtracker.com to locate problem statements that have high search results and low competition. Wordtracker.com is a web page that helps you find out how many times your keywords are searched online, how popular your keywords on search engines are. Those keywords may represent problem statements. Wordtracker shows you how many people are buying traffic on those keywords and how much are they paying. You need to find popular statements with low competition.

4. Research those problem statements further to determine if you can develop a product to solve the problem stated. You may use search engines to see how many people are offering products that can help to solve those problems. If you find a popular problem and there are not many people offering solutions online, you've got it!

5. Find or create a product based on previous research for you to sell. Once you found a hungry market, you just need to find the food that your customers want and they will eat from your hands. You may find companies online that can manufacture the products for you or you may find a different way to create the product yourself. If the product is an e-book, you may write it yourself or you may hire someone else to do it.

6. Write a long copy sales letter for that product. The experience of the most important internet marketing gurus reveals that long copies sell much more than short copies. It is also recommendable that you try to sell only one product on your web site. Focus on one product unless the solution you are providing is the offer of a wide catalogue.

7. Register a domain and set up a hosting account. There are many places online where you can register a domain and set up a hosting account in minutes.

8. Register for a merchant account (to set up quickly use PayPal.com). If you don't want to register a merchant account that will allow you to take credit card payments online, go to PayPal.com and sign in. It can be a little bit more expensive, but it is a simple way to take credit card payments online very quickly.

9. Set up a simple web site using an automatic site builder or pay to have someone set it up for you. Do not try to design your own web site unless you are educated on html. Do not waste your time. Hire someone else to do it or buy automatic web site builder software. There are many of these you can buy online.

10. Set up an opt-in form on your web site to collect e-mail addresses. You need to start collecting e-mail addresses for your newsletter. The major part of your business will come from the emails that you will send to your customer list.

11. Build an extensive keyword list based on the initial list of keywords you developed. Use Overture.com. For each keyword on the initial list, Overture can help you find different combinations with other words that you may find interesting. Check the popularity of each term and write down on a spread sheet your final keyword list.

12. Submit those keywords to Overture.com to start driving traffic right away. You need to start driving some traffic immediately in order to test your web site. The best way to do that is to buy this traffic at overture.com

13. Optimize and submit your web site to organic search engines (Google, Altavista, etc...). Once you have proved that your web site works and sells, you will be ready to make the business bigger. It is then time to start working on building free traffic to your site.

14. Continue to test and tweak your web site until target conversion rate is met. Your conversion ratio should be that 1-2% of your visitors should buy from your web site, and 11% should subscribe to your newsletter. Continue testing until you get those stats.

15. Set up an affiliate program on your web site. Affiliate programs can double your business with no additional effort. Others will make the job for you. But you cannot set up an affiliate program before you are sure that your web site can produce results. If your site does not work, you will loose your affiliates and they will never come back to you again.

16. Approach complimentary web sites to sign up as affiliates to promote your product. Get in contact with people that can promote your product and ask them to be your affiliates. Just try to find your first 100 affiliates, and your affiliate list will boom alone.

17. Start publishing a monthly newsletter. You have started collecting e-mail addresses much earlier, but it is not the time to start working the newsletter until you can prove that everything else works.

18. Submit articles to related newsletters and e-zines on a regular basis. In the articles you should always have a link to your site, so that you can get more traffic and you can get more people joining to your newsletter.

19. Continue the development of a content rich web site to further increase search engine rankings. Search engines love content. You must have many web sites which are rich on your keywords and which have links to your main page. A good way to do this is to add as many articles as you can related to your business and link them to your home page.

20. Once keywords have been tested in Overture, roll out in Google Adwords. It works similar to Overture, you bid for traffic. But do not go to Google Adwords first. You must first prove your success with Overture and then go to Google Adwords.

21. Roll out tested keyword list in other major PPCs. When you are sure about your stats, and you know how much money you collect per visitor, you must buy as much traffic as you can get as far as your income per visitor is higher than your bids.

22. Create a viral e-book to generate more leads. Create a free e-book that you can promote and which sells your product or service. Give it for free, and this will bring more traffic to your web site.

23. Have an expert review and critique your web site. Even if your site works, you can always improve. Listen to others and learn from their experiences.

24. Survey your existing customers to find out what other products or services they are looking for. Once you have a big list of customers, use it to find out what other problems do they have. Try to find or create a solution for them and you will boost your sales instantaneously.

25. Create and find back-end products and market them through your e-mail list. Continue finding more products that meet your customer demands and promote them via e-mail.

26. Continue to test and tweak your web site and offers. Nothing is perfect the first time and can always be improved. It is very important that you take action, even if you make mistakes. Learn from your errors and improve your skills.

27. Repeat process to create "Multiple Streams of Income". Once your business is working on automation, then you can start the process again with a new business. Build as many businesses as you can, and reduce your risks. If one business fails, but you have another 5 working businesses, who cares about it?

If you have read up to this point, you are probably asking yourself how much it will cost to get started? The answer is very simple; it depends on how much time and money you have available to invest! If you have a lot of time, you can do everything yourself. On the other hand, if you don't have time, you will have to pay other people for building your website and/or for optimizing your site on search engines.

If you can do nothing else...just launch a web site and start promoting online...

Power of Website Linking:Get Traffic

I’m sure you’ll agree that without traffic your website is nothing more than pixels on a screen. So over the next few weeks I’ve decided to focus on helping you increase the amount of traffic your website gets, so be sure not to miss a single post!

Today I’m going to start with building links in to your website.

It sounds like the simplest thing in the world. Just find someone with a site that has content similar to your own and strike a deal, “You place a link to me on your web site and I’ll place a link to you on mine.”

There was a time when this could be an effective way to generate traffic to your site as well as improve your search engine ranking. But for the most part, those times are gone.

Unscrupulous web masters figured out how to abuse the system by creating link farms and other schemes with absolutely no benefit for the site visitors, and search engines got smart and put an end to the whole thing.

So can’t we benefit from reciprocal links anymore? Sure we can, but with a few caveats. This post will explore how safe linking practices can still help your site gain traffic, and do better in the search engine results pages.

So as you may have already guessed, search engines like Google, Yahoo and MSN are skeptical about two-way links.
Due in a large extent to manipulation of the system, these search engines have programmed their bots to penalize sites for unethical linking practices, even if there is only the suspicion of wrong doing.

Where at one time a site looked popular if it was linked to by many sites, now that is a red flag.

The search bots actually follow the links these days, and evaluate whether or not the content on both ends of the links is related. If it is related, everything might be fine. If it isn’t related, or the bots aren’t able to see the relationship, your search engine placements might be effected.

Basically, if anything you’re doing even looks the least bit like you’re trying to manipulate your search engine placements, you’re likely to get dinged.

So do you have to worry that a site links to you if they aren’t based on a related topic?

Technically that shouldn’t be a problem; usually only the site placing the link will be penalized for an irrelevant link. Otherwise, it would open the door to a whole realm of sabotaging other sites by linking to them.

So if you want to avoid the famous “Google Slap” where you get knocked off the top of the search engine placements for what Google interperets as foul play, what is a safe linking practice? The answer is simple, “think naturally.”

Set up linking arrangements that appear natural and ask yourself, “Would I place this link if the search engines weren’t a factor?” Chances are, if you’re only linking to improve your placement then you could be asking for trouble. But if the link is there to truly serve your site visitors, then go for it.

Here are 3 of the most powerful ways of building up quality one way links to your website…

1. Submit your blog posts to Blog Carnivals
Focus on submitting your blog to blog carnivals that are on the same or related subject as yours:
www.BlogCarnival.com

2. Write articles and submit them to article directories
When your article is posted to one of these article directory websites it can then be picked up and published on other websites and blogs on the same subject as your article.
www.GoArticles.com
www.Ezinearticles.com
www.ArticleCity.com

3. Comment on other blogs that have “Do Follow” links
Use this online tool to help you find blogs similar to your own where you can post comments that include a link to your website the search engines will follow:

Winning Website awards

Website awards are small, sometimes animated pictures that have a little bit of text and some cute graphics in them. They are a bit like trophies
from sport events - one would easily believe that they have no actual purpose and are just designed to look good and to make the owner proud of himself.

Is it that simple? Well, if it were you wouldn't have to read this article. Website awards actually have a function, but the way they work is not quite common knowledge. Even many webmasters who display awards on their sites don't have a clue on what is actually happening.

Let's start by looking at this topic from the award winner's side. What does he actually get? Well, first of all he receives the graphic that the award distributor has made. Only on rare occasions it has any value; unless the site that gave it is extremely known and respected, the graphic alone will not raise the prestige of the winning page.

Second, the winner usually receives a link from the site that gave the award. The value of this link depends on where it is placed and how much traffic the linking page gets. If it's a prominent link on a busy site, it's worth something. If it's a tiny link on a low-traffic site, it won't do the winner much good.

Alright, we've pretty much covered what the winner gets. But does the person who gives out awards get anything, or is he left empty handed? Sometimes it is better to give than to receive, and I feel that this is one of the cases where the rule applies.

If done right, giving out awards can be a good promotion method, as it has two major positive effects. First, it creates a link popularity boost as it is possible and even common to pass out cut 'n paste HTML-code along with the award itself. This code is then used to install the award to the winner's
site and to link it back to the site that gave the award. Most award winners seem to comply with this linking procedure without giving it a second thought.

This boost in link popularity helps the person that gave the award in appearing near the top in search engines, especially if he is wise enough to give the awards mostly to sites that deal with similar topics as his own site. The relevancy of the links is important due to search engine algorithms - read the link popularity article for more information.

Distributing awards also creates some visitors through the awards visible on the winner's websites. Sure, not many people click on an award, but if you give out 1000 of them and every one gets clicked just twice a month, that's 2000 visitors/month for the site right there!

Who's really winning?
In conclusion, the person giving out awards usually benefits more from them than the one winning the award. If you're planning to apply for awards, prefer big sites that offer a prominent link on their site for winners. If you want, you might also try to win smaller awards just to gain some links. I wouldn't even think about placing the actual awards on my site; the real prize is the link that can be gained from the site that gives the award, not the award itself.

On the other hand, if you're planning to hand out website awards, it might be a good idea. There are plenty of webmasters out there who haven't read this article and will gladly accept just about any award, place it on their site and link it to your site.

Increase Traffic with Return visitors

More often than I'd like to see, webmasters make the mistake of assuming that the easiest way to increase traffic is to attract as many new visitors as
possible. This belief is partially correct, but a site cannot become truly popular unless it also appeals to these new users so much that they decide to come back again and again.

We all have a few favorite places in the web where we stop by every now and then to get the information and entertainment we need. One of your important goals as a siteowner is to make your site such a place for as many people as possible. The better you succeed in doing so, the more products you will sell and the higher your revenue from advertising will be.

Why is it important to increase return traffic?
There are many reasons why you would want your visitors to come back to your pages. If you sell banner advertising space, you can easily calculate that a person who comes to your site, looks at five pages and then returns ten times within the next year and checks out an average of two pages per visit is four times as valuable to you than one who reads five pages but forgets all about you after leaving.

Owners of online stores benefit from an increase in return traffic as well, because in many cases it takes more than one visit to make the sale. The visitor might not need your product right now, but if he bookmarks your site and uses that bookmark once in a while, he is likely to buy from you when the time is right.

Another advantage that arises from such visitor loyalty is that those who regularly visit your site often mention it to their friends, family and colleagues. This can easily create a so-called traffic virus, which is born when people tell about you to their acquaintances, who then spread the word to their own acquaintances and so on. While it might not sound like a very big deal, word-of-mouth is the primary source of traffic for many larger sites and the reason they have become what they are today.

Just when I think I'm out - they pull me back in
I'm not going to waste your time by going on and on about the value of return traffic. You know that it will benefit your site and for our purposes, that is enough. From this point onwards, we will be focusing on the most important issue - what do you need to do to get people to keep returning to your pages?

While there is no magic formula, there are many things you can do that will increase the likelihood of your users turning into regular visitors. The first and foremost step is to have a great site that is filled with high quality content. That sounds like self-evident and it is, but it is also the foundation that you will be building on. If your site is not the best thing that has come along since sliced bread, all the tricks in the world won't help you to lure your visitors into visiting it for a second time. Would you go back to a page that you found to be boring, starved of content and lacking useful information?

Even if your site is truly among the best, the harsh truth is that you will have to update it continuously if you want to retain the interest of your visitors. This means adding unique, fresh content every now and then or at the very least updating and improving the content you already offer. The more often you can do this the better, but once or twice a month is the very minimum that must be met.

If someone comes back two or three times within two months and nothing changes between these visits, he's likely to think that the site is no longer being updated and go elsewhere. On the other hand, if there is a lot of new articles to read each time, you'll probably see him come back several times more. Consider adding a "What's new" page of somesort to inform your regular visitors about recent developments and make sure that you have plenty of things to report on it.

Simply having good content and updating it often goes a long way towards establishing your site as a regular stop for many surfers. However, there are plenty of other things that can help you in your task and convert an even larger part of your visitors into regulars.

Start a newsletter
Running a newsletter takes a lot of work, but brings large rewards in return. If you are able to get your visitors to subscribe, you can then E-mail your newsletter to them without the fear of being accused of spamming. This way they won't forget that your site exists and after reading your E-mails for a while, they will remember its address even in their sleep.

Your newsletter can be a simple announcement service that lets everyone know when you have made changes to your site, have several original articles in each issue that pertain to whatever it is your site is about or be something in between these two. In any case, you should keep in mind that the more unique content your newsletter offers, the more interest it will attract. A simple announcement service is merely an extension of your site, but a high quality newsletter can become so famous that people come to your pages just to subscribe to it.

Remind people to bookmark
There are two schools of thought on this subject. The first believes that offering a link to bookmark your site will increase the amount of visitors who do so. Because remembering Internet addresses is difficult for some, being bookmarked ensures that you won't be losing return traffic just because the user happened to wander off and then forgot your URL.

The second school thinks that while it is important that your site gets added to the surfer's bookmarks or favorites, asking for someone to do so isn't very effective. The supporters of this line of thought say that if someone knows how to use bookmarks, he will also know how to add them. All you will have to do is to provide enough good stuff that will convince the visitor that adding your site to the favorites list would be a good idea.

I'm leaning towards the latter opinion, but my mind is not completely made up yet. So, it might not be a bad idea to consider adding a "Bookmark now!" link, provided that you're able to integrate it to your design so that it doesn't stick out like a sore thumb. I will be running a test on this subject in the near future, so remember to stay tuned.

Add a monthly sweepstakes
Giving something valuable for free is a sure-fire way to get some extra hits. The word about sweepstakes and contests usually tends to spread well on its own, but running one will also give you the opportunity to submit to the hundreds of sites that list sweepstakes and competitions. As a result, you should see a nice increase in traffic and also get more return visitors as people come back to enter next month's sweepstakes. Sounds great, doesn't it?

Unfortunately, there's a small fly in this soup. The traffic you will receive is interested in winning the prize, not exploring your site and seeing what it has to offer. That is why I'd recommend that you choose a prize that should attract the kind of audience you want to capture instead of random sweepstake-enthusiasts.

To give an example, if my site sold gardening tools, I'd set up a contest where participants could win a set of gardening equipment and a subscription to a gardening magazine instead of offering money as a prize. There would be less visitors and less entries, but the people that would come just might buy something instead of simply entering the competition and leaving.

As said above, offering other than money as a prize is usually a good idea, but you should also prominently display the estimated value of your prize in dollars. "A set of rare comics" doesn't sound exciting, but "$395 worth of rare comics" sounds a lot better, don't you think? Whatever you do, make sure that the prize is worth winning but also one that you can afford.

Discussion forums are like glue
I'm not kidding you. A well-maintained, busy discussion forum can become a huge success. There are several sites I originally visited because of the content, but after a while the biggest reason that kept me coming back was that they had such great discussion forums.

The best part about these boards is that most of the content is produced by the visitors themselves and even moderating them can be partially transferred to the most intelligent and reliable participants. You will have to stop by every now and then to read and write messages, answer questions, remove offensive content and otherwise make sure that everything is going all right, but that isn't very hard work.

However, before you break out the champagne and start dreaming about your new automatic content generator that will draw surfers by the thousands, you'll need to hear about the negative sides. The largest problem is that your site must be popular, very popular, when you start your forum. A forum is like a nuclear reactor, it needs to achieve critical mass before it starts working on its own. If your site doesn't get enough traffic, the forum won't be frequented by many users and they will write very few new messages.

Increase website and Blog Traffic with Articles

Quite frankly, it's hard to quickly increase website traffic. When you submit a site to a search engine or a directory, it takes a while before it gets listed and the effects start to show. However, if you happen to be a webmaster of a new site, you know that it is difficult to wait for the
traffic to start growing. There's nothing that would sound better than receiving a few hundred or thousand visitors within the next day or two, but how are you going to make that happen?

While there are many possible solutions, the best way to increase website traffic for a brief period of time is to write newsletter articles. All that is required is an idea, decent writing skills, a couple hours of time and someone who would be interested in publishing your work. Because there is no money involved, this promotion technique is especially suited for small business owners who don't have a large marketing budget.

The resource box is the key
Newsletter editors are always looking for good content. Especially when their newsletter is published daily or weekly, it's hard for them to produce all the content they need on their own. However, while they admit that they need the content, most of them can't afford or simply don't want to pay for it.

Because too many people aren't willing to write articles without any compensation, someone invented a clever arrangement: In exchange for allowing his content to be published for free, the author is allowed to place one small advertisement in the newsletter without charge. These advertisements are placed immediately below the article and are called "resource boxes" or "bylines". A typical resource box contains some information about the author and a link to his site. To give an example, here's one of my own:

http://smallonlinebusinessmoney.blogspot.com
Step by step solution to making online money by growing your small online home based business.

But is there any point in writing a full article just to get one 4-6 line ad? There probably wouldn't, if you were limited to publishing it in just one newsletter. However, usually you'll only give newsletters a right to use your article instead of transferring its ownership. This makes it possible to write a single piece and then have it published by several ezines. A good article may be featured in more than ten newsletters, thus allowing your 4-6 line ad reach tens or hundreds of thousands of subscribers and increase your website traffic substantially.

As this one ad is the only compensation you'll get from your article, it has to be a good one. No matter how good your articles are, they won't produce too much traffic if your resource box is unattractive. To improve the effectiveness of your resource box, make sure that it

Mentions the address of your website, preferably in the form http://www.mysite.com/. Unlike simply using your domain name "mysite.com", the longer "http://www.mysite.com/" allows users of Outlook Express and several other E-mail programs to click on the link rather than forcing them to open a new browser window and cut & paste the address.

Doesn't have any affiliate URL's, ie. http://www.affiliateprogram.com/index.htm?affiliate_id=affiliate . The people who have been on the net for a while generally tend to avoid clicking at long URL's that look like affiliate links. If you really want to use such a link, create a page, for example "program.html" on your site that is nothing more than a JavaScript redirect to the affiliate program's address. Then simply use http://www.mysite.com/program.html in your resource box.

Has been tested. If you write often for the same newsletters, it wouldn't be a bad idea to create several different resource boxes and compare their performance. Well-planned resource box testing enables you to get as many clickthroughs from your articles as possible.

Some marketing required
When you decide to start writing articles, the first step is to find as many newsletters as possible that are dedicated to the topic you want to write about. There are several methods you can use to accomplish this. Start out by visiting the leading sites about your topic and see whether some of them publish newsletters. Then use the search engines and ezine directories to find more of them.

While searching for newsletters that might be willing to publish your article is not much fun, it's a very important job. Try to find 10-20 medium/large newsletters and absolutely refuse to quit until you have done so. The reason why this is vital for your success is that most of the work involved in this promotion method comes from writing the article itself. Once that is done, sending the article to a hundred editors instead of five will not take much more time, but it will explode the amount of visitors you'll receive.

After you've found enough newsletters that accept articles from readers, arrange them into a list based on how many subscribers they have. Many newsletters publish the current number of subscribers in each issue, but if some of them don't, try to make an educated guess based on how professional they seem.

When you're done, send the article to the first newsletter on your list, then wait a couple of days for their response before moving on to the next one. Granted, it would be easier to simply send your article to every newsletter at the same time, but it isn't wise for two reasons:

Large newsletters tend to only accept articles that haven't already been widely published, while most smaller ones are not as picky.

If you'd send your article to everyone simultaneously, two or more large ezines might publish it at the same time. This makes the editors of said ezines look bad, which in turn can result in them forwarding your next article submission straight to the trashcan.

When you've sent to your article to all of the newsletters/ezines on your lists, it's beginning to approach the end of its lifespan. The last step is to send it to various lists and sites that distribute free articles, where it can be picked up by owners of smaller ezines that you don't know about. There are a large amount of these lists, but a few of the most important ones that accept nearly all sorts of articles are

Does it increase my traffic enough to pay off?
It's hard to answer this question, because everything depends on how good your article is and how well you are able to market it. In the best possible scenario your article will be published by several ezines that have 100,000+ subscribers each, resulting in >5000 visitors to your site. On the flip side of the coin, it's possible that nobody will publish your article and you won't get a single hit. My personal experience is that a reasonably well-written article that is actively marketed usually produces around 500-2500 unique visitors.

If you decide to try your hand at writing articles, remember that the results tend to improve as you become more experienced. Should your first pieces be rejected by most newsletters and only produce a handful of visitors, don't get depressed. It takes a bit of practice, but it is
worth it in the long run.

OK, so it works - how do I do it?
Writing newsletter articles isn't the easiest job in the world, but it isn't the hardest either. However, if you don't have any past experience, it might be difficult to get started. For that reason, I chose to write two articles about this subject instead of just one.

In the piece you just read, "Increase website traffic with articles", we discussed how to market your articles and what kind of results you can expect. The other article, "Writing newsletter articles" has a few pointers on how to create the articles themselves. So, if you haven't written anything before, consider taking a look at it as well for maximum benefit.

The Nation's Recession is bearing down on folks of all sorts. People are losing their paychecks. People are losing their houses. Folks are losing their health insurance. All kinds of people lost money in their IRA accounts. Generally, there is loss of faith among the citizenry as to just how well the economy will provide opportunity.

If you are one of the millions of people feeling financially unstable right now I want you to consider the Internet as a place to make money.

I'm doing it right now and just a while back I didn't know web sites from blogs and hadn't even considered it.

Then, all of a sudden, I was looking for a way to make money. Anyway, I was by a computer and I typed in "How to make money with my computer" The results of that search overwhelmed me with opportunities that ranged from straight out scams to viable plans.

There are a million ways to make money on the web and many people are becoming millionaires. But that's pie-in-the-sky right now so let me tell you that making $50 to $100 dollars a days is considered easy on the net and $200 to $400 dollars per day is reasonable for someone bright that hustles.

Sales and income on the Internet is easily the fastest growing AND biggest marketplace in the world. I sold a website kit to a gal in Australia a few day back. My site is fully automated. She paid by credit card and received her electronically downloadable web page kit in just minutes. No shipping. I was asleep. But you don't start there.

If you are totally new to the idea, but game for it, you need to start out gently with learning the terminology and tools of the trade of Internet Marketing. It's a good idea to remember that this is direct sales by means of the web and it can be automated! That's one of the really great features.

You are going to be shown secrets that take a long time to learn and you will be freely given them. The tools and techniques are what you'll have to learn first and then we'll get into the actual sales process. (the fun part)

But the most important thing to realize is that there is only one way to earn money automatically online and that's by selling something. But it's easy! People WANT to buy what you have to sell if you do it right! All you have to do is learn how it's done and do it for yourself.

If you need to make more money...if you are attracted to the idea of making money online...if you want to commit and jump into the fastest growing sales arena in the world...then you owe it to yourself to consider the benefits of Internet Marketing. Low cost startup and high potential earnings! And you can start now.

And it would be a VERY GOOD THING if you got started out with someone who has high standards when it comes to honest earnings by means of direct sales on the net.

Few Essentials For Internet Marketers ,start making money on-line

You've decided that you want to become an Internet marketer and start making money on-line. Only problem is, you are not quite sure how to go about it. There are hundreds if not thousands of websites out there that give you advice on how to get your business up and running. Some of these sites are very informative and some are just plain junk.

One of the hardest things about Internet marketing is getting started out on the right foot. If you don't, you will find yourself just spinning your wheels and getting nowhere fast. When that happens you will start to get frustrated and the next thing you know you quit. It doesn't have to be that way.

You can succeed if you get started correctly. When you do find a program to join you should make sure that they have the eight things that every Internet marketer should learn. To be successful at promoting anything on-line be it your own product or an affiliate product, these eight things are essential:

1. Does the website offer video training? Most people find that video training is a lot easier to follow than just written materials. If you can see something being done then it definitely makes it easier to follow. Plus you can stop the video at any point and then restart when you're ready to move on.

2. Does the website teach you about article marketing? Article marketing is still one of the best ways of promoting any thing you may be trying to sell on-line. The program should tell you the best way to write an article to get your readers interested enough to click through to your product or affiliate site.

3. The site should be able to tell you how to build a website from the ground up. Building a website is really not that hard, but a site with video tutorials makes it so much easier if you are just starting out.

4. If you are looking to just promote affiliate products, you want a website that teaches you how to go about finding the best affiliate programs to promote.

5. Social networking is another important part of Internet marketing. The program you choose should give you some good insight into social networking and how it will help you grow your on-line presence.

6. Another very important thing your chosen program should teach you is pay per click marketing. Pay per click marketing is a good way to make money, but if you just jump right in without the right knowledge it could cost you a lot of money. You should be able to learn how to select the right keywords for whatever you are promoting, therefore making you profitable from the start.

7. Making money from home can be done but without the right mindset it could be a little overwhelming. Your program should have some audio or videos to help you with mindset. What I mean by mindset is something that will help get you motivated, develop qualities of success, teach specifics of setting goals and so on.

8. Last but not least, the program should give you some good ideas about what niches are hot. Sometimes it is hard to decide what you want to promote but your best bet is to go with what you love to do or something you are passionate about.

These eight things are essential to helping you become successful on-line but they are not the only ones. Your chosen program if it is a good one, will go far beyond these eight essentials.

Some good advice would be to just take your time and try to follow the steps you are taught. Don't try to do everything at once. You will find that if you do, it will be a lot less overwhelming.

Patience and persistence is the key. Have those two qualities and you will be well on your way to Internet marketing mastery!

ways To Rank for High Competition Keywords Secrets Revealed

Here is my take on how to rank for high competition keywords, sort of a follow up to higher search engine ranks with proper keyword research, but on a positive note.
Ultimately the best keywords are those that have lots of competition, often in the millions, because those are the ones that are searched for the most, cause and effect people! It is very difficult to rank for those keywords, but there is a way.
When doing keyword research there are always long tail keywords. A long tail keyword is simply a phrase with the main keyword in it.
Example:
Main keyword: Computers
Long Tail: Buy Cheap Computers
Now, if you look at the competition for most any popular main keywords it is usually very high, keywords like, money, credit cards, loans, mortgage, insurance, health, cell phones, computers, laptops, cars, the list can go on and on. Ranking for these keywords is going to be a long hard road. So, what you need to do is target the long tails for them and rank for those.
Let’s say I want to rank for cell phones, which has 2,700,000 competing sites with allintitle search query. So, I will find a couple of good long tails that still have a good amount of searches and much less competition, for example, cheap cell phones (15,000 competing sites) and buy cell phones (8,910 competing sites).
Now I build my links with those phrases in the anchor text and over time my site will rank for those long tails, but because the main keyword cell phones is in those longtails I will inadvertently begin to climb in the SERPS for cell phones, and depending on the link building efforts and the quality of the backlinks will get there sooner or later. Make sense?
You can do this over and over again with any keywords, but again I always check Page 1 of the results, because there are some keywords that are just not worth it because too many big guns sit on Page 1, all though nothing is impossible ;-), just takes more effort, experience and time.
Time is always key here, as for some of those main keywords it could take a while to rank, but, that is okay because the long tails I pick will get me decent traffic, sales, Adsense revenue and whatever else I am targeting in the meantime, and once I get to Page 1 for the main keywords, which usually have gizzillions of daily searches then it’s all golden and I’ll be laughing all the way to the bank.

Blog Monetization ADSENSE ALTERNATIVES

Google AdSense is the current leader in content-sensitive web-based marketing. Webmasters can place Google AdSense JavaScript code on their web pages in order to allow Google's servers to show context sensitive advertisements (Google Adwords). Google's terms and conditions are very strict such that many web publishers cannot use adsense adverts on their sites. They are either denied from joining the Google AdSense program, or in a situation that is becoming more and more common do not wish to do business with Google. A number of publishers are also finding their Adsense accounts are being disabled for reasons that are completely beyond their control. The problem is that most of the alternatives to Google's Adsense are pretty useless. Most of the good ones (such as doubleclick) are only interested in very large volume customers and so are not interested in the little guy with his blog who wants to earn a small income on the side. For this reason I have compiled my Top 10 alternatives to Google's Adsense that are ideal for the small time publisher.

If you are a advertiser then you may be interested in these best alternatives to adwords.

Proven Ways to Earn Money Online

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe. Thanks for visiting!
The internet is wealth creating resource. It has made millionaires of countless individuals who have found ways of providing products/services via the internet. This site is for e-marketers and future or home-based business owners. Here you’ll find ways to make money on the internet as well as work-at-home resources to help get you started. First, let’s start with the most common ways of making money online. Below are the 6 most common ways used today to earn income on the net:
Buying and Reselling/EbayDrop-shippingE-tradingMLM (Multilevel Marketing) and Direct SellingAffiliate/Referral Programs“Out of the box”
1. E-bay Selling - Buying and selling products is one the most common ways of making money online. It can be very profitable if you find, make or channel a product that is in demand for example: e-books/information, electronics, furniture, office supplies, apparel, etc. The key is to out-think the competition, since the creation of the Ebay phenomenon thousands of sellers have monetized on the opportunity. It’s important to find a product that you’re familiar with in order to be an effective seller; for example, don’t sell computers if you don’t know what “processor speed” is, you’ll just set yourself up for failure. If your having trouble finding a product try going to WWB, they offer products as well as information/ tools on how to find niche products and sell them on Ebay. You can also go to the Ebaystore to set up an inexpensive storefront if you don’t want to build your own.
Drawbacks to Ebay selling are:
Finding/making a profitable productCan be time consuming (Plan to spend 20-30 hrs/week)Very competitive market
2. Drop-ship- Drop-shipping is very similar- however the advantage to drop-shipping is that you don’t have to worry about moving the products yourself. With drop-shipping you’re really working as a third party in the sense that you find vendor’s who’ll drop-ship, and when you make a sale, they deliver the products directly to the customer for you-thus, no inventory or overhead costs? It can also save you the money and hassle of running to UPS every month to send/receive shipments. Another perk is that you don’t have to buy the product before you sell it! You simply take the order and give it to the manufacturer for shipping, and you receive a check, without having bought a thing. I know I make this sound pretty easy but in fact it takes an adequate amount of information gathering in order find hot products. The first thing you will need to obtain is a drop-ship directory in order to find vendors who drop-ship, it will cost you anywhere from $55-85, but the money you spend will more than pay you back in safety and time. The only source I recommend for directories is WorldWide again because their the only vendor directory provider that’s Ebay certified-there’s a lot of fakes out their posing as drop-ship providers who are really just “middlemen” trying to collect a commission.
Drawbacks to drop-shipping are:
It can be extremely time-consuming finding reputable vendors with profitable products that will work with drop-shippers.Backorders and returns can be a headache if you’re with a bad vendor.
3. E-trading is a trend growing more in popularity everyday. Right now the biggest e-trading market is Forex (Foreign Exchange Market) which has a higher turnover rate than the U.S. equity market. Foreign currency trading is a VERY lucrative market and involves simultaneously buying and selling currency online. Transactions take place OTC (Over the Counter) or via internet/phone, as there is no centralized location for trade such as with the stock or futures markets. Not only does Forex offer trading tutorials and conferences for you to learn to trade, but they also allow novice traders to get a taste of the market by allowing you to begin trading with as little as a $25 investment. Forex trading time is short in nature as it does not require long periods of holding before trading as with stocks or bonds. Actually 85% of all currency transactions last around a week or less. A great benefit of trading with Forex is that you aren’t charged commissions or exchange fees. They also offer “real time” price quotes. Go over to Forex.com to get more information about the currency trading market and how to get started.
Drawbacks:
Plan to have an investment of at least $250 to see the big bucks. The market can be very sporadic and due to the short term nature you will need to stay informed (daily, even hourly) of trends and economic changes that will cause value fluctuation.
4. MLM and Direct Selling business opportunities in my opinion are the most misrepresented and underestimated income opportunities on the web. Most of this is due to false and misleading claims about products/services and income potential made by shady distributors and sales associates. Multi-Level Marketing or (MLM) companies are organizations that provide a product or service and market it by “word of mouth” advertising or paying independent distributors to sell the products as oppose to paid advertising i.e., radio, TV, newspaper. These distributors sell the products and receive commissions; however the majority of the money is made by “referring” or bringing in more distributors, who then bring in more distributors, and so on. The key to these businesses is to find established and legit companies with good commission structures and not spend time and money on small, “fly by night” corporations. Direct Selling is really in essence MLM (even though they try hard to distinguish themselves) except the products that are usually sold are “higher ticket” or more expensive products. Direct selling allows you to make more money with fewer recruits because you have higher commissions. Both of these opportunities are for people who desire and motivation to “run their own business”, because once you recruit people in under you, you have to teach them how to do the same, it’s called the process of “duplication” which involves duplicating the work habits of successful individuals and teaching others to do the same. Income is unlimited and residual, so even when you retire from the business (realistically anywhere from 2-4 years) you’ll still receive checks! An initial investment is required for both opportunities in order to purchase the products and/or start-up kit so if your not looking to invest anywhere between $50-250 for an MLM or at least $500-2k for Direct Selling maybe these businesses aren’t for you.
Drawbacks:
With so many un-established companies on the internet its hard to discern what companies are paying real people real money, so do your research before pulling out your credit card. There is a high drop out rate in MLM’s due to lack of adequate training from the recruiter/upline and or motivation on the recruits part, so choose your upline carefully because some members will recruit you then leave you on the corner.Direct selling is bit more challenging due to the type of products/services being offered. It’s more challenging to sell due to the fact that a lot of people who are looking for a business are doing so because cash is tight, so most of them don’t have a grand to invest in order to start (believe me I know).
5. Last but not least we have Affiliate programs. Affiliate programs are perfect for people who don’t want to sell their own product, don’t want to talk to people on the phone or in person, and/or don’t want to spend a lot of money. An affiliate is someone who advertises a company’s services/products on their site by placing banners/ads of the company’s site on their website. When the organization makes a sale from your website link, and in some cases even a referral from the affiliate’s site, the affiliate receives a commission. Affiliate marketing is inexpensive to start because 99% of the companies don’t charge you to become an affiliate, and why should they? I mean after all you’re bringing them visitors, which turns into more sales revenue. You don’t have to have your own site to be an affiliate, but it is necessary if you’re looking to attract more visitors and make more money. The key is joining a good handful of affiliate programs so that you can create multiple streams of income, that’s how top affiliates earn thousands/week.
Drawbacks:
It can be challenging finding quality affiliate programs to join. Many companies claim to “have the best” program. If you don’t have traffic, what’s the point? It’s better if you actually KNOW HOW to bring traffic to websites. Many affiliates make money due to the fact that they don’t know how to market their programs.
Not enough??? Well try thinking out of the box. Most successful online marketers created income by simply finding a need or a solution for a product/service. For example, while vacationing in Colorado a few years ago I came across a guy who’d made millions simply by creating a website/lead capture page that surveyed people who were searching for real estate. The page, he stated, basically was a questionnaire collecting information about their requirements: price range, number of rooms, location, etc. After receiving the information from the site, he then sold their information as leads to mortgage companies and real estate agents in those local areas! This can be a very profitable business venture because real estate agents are always on the hunt for warm leads. You can even apply this to any other business where leads are sought after.
Don’t let drawbacks discourage you!! All of these strategies are viable and the most commonly used ways to make money online. You just have to have believe that you can be successful-besides what business doesn’t have its drawbacks?
